NINJA vs MERCILESS Ninja Man, who came with the intention "to settle all arguments" with Merciless, might be kicking himself right now. After totally dominating the 'Warhead' Merciless in the early goings, getting most of the 'forwards' from the crowd, the Ninja gave it away in the end. He attacked Merciless with "Yuh talk bout Cobra a bowers, Bounty a coward, yuh nah tel dem di amount a man whe ...... u down a Riker's". Merciless appeared to have been speechless as the crowd went into a frenzy. Ninja Man thought that was the defining moment and declared himself winner by walking off the stage. But Merciless stood strong and when Ninja Man came out for a second time that was the beginning of the end. "You a run... me ago...

Delroy Wilson was one of Jamaica's most soulful vocalists, and over a 40-year career the singer unleashed a flood of hits and a multitude of masterpieces. Born on October 5, 1948, in the Kingston neighborhood of Trenchtown, Wilson's phenomenal talent would be his ticket out of the ghetto, and his discovery by producer Coxsone Dodd in 1962 would change the path of Jamaican music. His first recording for Dodd, "If I Had a Beautiful Baby" did little, but the producer stuck by his prodigy, and his follow-up "Spit in the Sky," was a sound system smash. That number was Dodd's personally composed smack at rival Prince Buster, while Lee Perry penned Wilson's "Joe Liges" as a sharp rebuke aimed at Buster's "Bad Minded People." "Joe Liges"...

They released several more popular singles between 1963 and 1965, including "World's Fair", "Hush", and "Artibella". Boothe also recorded as a duo with Roy Shirley (as Roy & Ken), releasing the "Paradise" single in 1966. His first solo tracks were recorded in 1966 after Clement "Coxsone" Dodd had signed him to the Studio...
It is felt, generally, that all Jamaican popular music can be described by one brand name - reggae. This assumption has been widely accepted because of the dominant position of reggae music, which has so captured international popularity that it is a phenomenon. But musical styles remain popular for only so many years. Then comes the period when the composing of new tunes ceases and, the music thereafter lives on in memories and reputation. Reggae reached that stage 25 years ago. Since Bob Marley's death in 1981, there have been little new popular reggae compositions. While this follows the pattern, it is amazing that a small country striving with some success for world recognition would virtually abandon its world-wide achievement...
Jamaica has put a price tag on slavery and has sent the British government the bill. State officials of the Caribbean nation said they’re asking Great Britain to pay $10.6 billion (USD) in reparations. The former British colony served as the center of the slave trade with Africans kidnapped, enslaved and forced to work on plantations which produced sugar cane, bananas and other products. That free and inhumane labor greatly enriched the slave owners. According to the National Library of Jamaica, about 600,000 Africans landed in Jamaica during the slave trade. Britain prohibited trade in slaves in its empire in 1807 but did not formally abolish the practice of slavery until 1834. To compensate slave owners, the British government took...
