Dancehall artiste Assassin is certainly more mature and has even developed into 'Agent Sasco'. The artiste, whose real name is Jeffrey Campbell, said Agent Sasco is a "more spiritually aware, socially conscious" version of himself. Assassin said he started the Agent Sasco movement with songs like Same Thing Again and Give Thanks. His other straight dancehall songs like Pree Dis and Almighty Protect Me, he said, he will leave to the interpretation of his listeners. While the Agent Sasco persona will release more socially aware songs, Assassin said it is not an alter ego. "It may be similar but not entirely an alter ego 'cause that is usually outside your normal character. This has always been a part of my work, I'm just...
Deejay Assassin is furious following his abrupt removal from the stage while performance at 'Red Stripe Live' on Saturday at Sabina Park. Assassin's set was supposedly cut short because of the use of the word 'fish' in a song he performed called Pre This. In the release, Assassin states: "My performance was ended prematurely and abruptly as I was stripped of my microphone and escorted off stage." Assassin says he had spent many years of hard work and sacrifice building his reputation as an artiste, with a great level of integrity and professionalism, so he felt the need to explain to his fans exactly what took place. Assassin said when he was booked for the event, the songs he would be performing were submitted in their...
Dancehall needs less hype and more storytellers said deejay Assassin who toasted tales of poverty and strife at the Jamaica Poetry Society's monthly fellowship on Tuesday Assassin's performance was ostensibly aimed at counteracting the view that dancehall is void of literature. Mid-set he honoured 80s deejay Professor Nuts as one of the greatest story tellers. Earlier this month, former Prime Minister Edward Seaga damned the recordings fuelling the 'gully versus gaza' debacle, saying the tracks lack any form of musical standards. "My love for Jamaican music does not incorporate the latest form - dancehall," Seaga told reporters and editors at an Observer Monday Exchange meeting. "Dancehall music lacks components of classical...
The charges against singer Chris Brown and his bodyguard stemming from a weekend fight were reduced to simple assault misdemeanors Monday. The two men, who had spent the previous 36 hours in a Washington jail, entered a packed courtroom in leg irons and handcuffs, but at the end they were unshackled and released without bail Monday afternoon. Brown, 24, was ordered to report to his California probation officer within 48 hours and to stay at least 100 yards away from the man he is accused of assaulting early Sunday. Both men must return to court on November 24.

The doors to what was once New Kingston's 'maddest' night spot, Asylum, have been slammed shut. Nite Time Promotions, owners and operators of the club, say the popular venue officially closed its doors on Tuesday. Chung, a pioneer in night time entertainment, successfully ran the Cactus night club in Portmore for what was considered eight glorious years, before opening Asylum, which many felt led to the ultimate demise of Cactus. But for Chung, the story didn't read quite like that. "All great night clubs have a life cycle. Cactus did eight exciting years after which it was time to close. Its successor, Asylum surpassed, that. This closing makes way for the management of the club to take advantage of new and exciting opportunities...

(AP) Health officials in Jamaica say a dead baby found just outside the island's largest maternity hospital was not a patient there. The chairman for the South East Regional Health Authority is disputing a police account that a woman threw the newborn girl out the hospital's second-story window early Thursday. Lyttleton Shirley said Friday that no babies are missing from the maternity ward or the morgue at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston. He said the hospital is auditing a list of all mothers discharged in recent days to help police with the investigation.
Bank of Jamaica Governor Brian Wynter says the Jamaican dollar is no longer overvalued and is now less susceptible to unpredictable slippage, following recommendations by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its continued devaluation to maintain competitiveness. The statement, which was yesterday released by the bank under the September quarter review, also indicated a two percentage point decline in the country’s inflation rate quarter over quarter — from 3.8% to 1.8% continuing on its 40-year-low trend. The statement follows an almost 70 per cent decline in domestic financing by the Government for the September quarter when compared to the same period last year and since the beginning of the agreement with the IMF...
The playing of reggae and dancehall music was suspended in Barbados. The suspension began on June 1 and ended today August 05, 2013 to facilitate Crop Over. Those that control the policies of the Barbados music industry are hoping that Bajans will be consuming more of their culture from the media during that period. Crop Over is a traditional festival which began in Barbados, having had its early beginnings on the sugar cane plantations during the colonial period. The festival was originally a celebration signalling the end of the yearly sugar cane harvest. However, it has since evolved into Barbados' biggest national festival, similar to carnivals in Trinidad and Brazil. How do you feel about this?
Barbados government issue a statement that there is no truth to a report by a Jamaican woman who claimed she was finger-searched before being denied entry into Barbados last week. The Barbados government is however planning a high-level meeting with the Jamaican High Commissioner to Trinidad to try to prevent any major fallout between the two countries as a result of the media hype surrounding the incident. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Maxine McClean stated at a press conference,
