Jamaica Dogsled Team is sending Newton Marshall to the pinnacle of
world-class competitions, the 1,770-kilometre Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Among those rooting for the 26-year-old musher is Margaritaville icon
Jimmy Buffet, who spends a lot of time in Jamaica and has been the team's
primary sponsor since it was founded by a friend.

FYI to those who snort at Marshall as a publicity stunt: last year he completed
the 1,600-kilometre Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race. Out of 29 mushers,

(AP)Jamaica's reluctance to hand over an alleged crime boss is straining relations
with the United States, which is questioning the Caribbean nation's reliability
as an ally against drug trafficking.

The two governments have been negotiating over Christopher "Dudus" Coke
since the U.S. requested his extradition in August to face arms and drug trafficking
charges in New York. The U.S. Justice Department calls him one of the world's
most dangerous drug kingpins.

In a report Monday, the State Department...

Badgyal Ce'Cile, who celebrated her birthday last Wednesday, almost never
got to see another one following an incident in St Ann last Friday night in
which her BMW motor car was forced off the road by an errant trailer driver.

The singer's luxury car was damaged when it broke through a stone wall as
she tried to avoid being crushed by the trailer. The front end was damaged
leaving the car 'wobbling'. The left fog light was broken, the tyres were damaged
and there was also damage to the fender. However, the airbags did...

Thirty years ago, Lorenzo Carter was a suspected Jamaican drug smuggler
carving out turf in Atlantic City during the Wild West days at the start of the
town's casino era.

One spring morning in 1980, say police, Carter walked up to a green Cadillac
idling at a rundown intersection and opened fire with a handgun, killing a
passenger also believed to be in the drug game.

Everton Kelly, 26, and John Sessoms, 39, had been riddled with bullets as
they sat in a car in front of a sandwich shop near Delaware and Atlantic
Avenues in the...

Born in the 80’s but wishing he was birthed in the 60’s, Oje "Protoje" Ollivierre
is the fresh face with the freshest lyrical delivery, still having a feel of vintage
reggae music but being a suitable update for the present time.

Indeed, Marley’s mantra was to “free the people with music.” Protoje’s mantra
is to free the people with art. Music – his appointed contribution to the artistic
revolution - is only one of the many distinct art forms. He takes up the mantle
of spokesperson for the Movement and...

A deadly 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck central Chile early Saturday, collapsing
buildings, shattering major bridges and highways across a long strip of the country,
and sending tsunami warnings along the Pacific basin.

The Associated Press quoted Mrs. Bachelet as saying that a huge wave had swept
into a populated area in Robinson Crusoe Island, 410 miles off the Chilean coast,
but there were no immediate reports of major damage there. Those reports bore
out early fears that a major tsunami was on its way across the Pacific, and the first
hemispherewide tsunami...

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) -- Authorities in Jamaica are investigating a
doctor who has been accused of performing an illegal abortion on a
13-year-old girl.

Police spokesman Karl Angell says the unidentified doctor faces charges
including procuring abortion, procuring drug for an abortion and child
endangerment.

Police have not said how far along the pregnancy was, but abortions at
any term are illegal in Jamaica, even if prosecution is rare.

Angel said Friday that a woman whose son allegedly got the girl pregnant
faces similar charges. Her son's...

The Ragga Muffins Festival in Oakland has removed reggae
artiste Capleton from their February 20th event, after organizers
decided the singer`s `anti-gay lyrics` would be inappropriate
for the event.

Festival co-producer Moss Jacobs also cancelled Capleton`s
appearances at the upcoming Long Beach and San Diego events.

Capleton`s manager, Claudette Kemp, has denied that her client
supports the murder of homosexuals and says that many of the
singer`s lyrics are in fact based on the Bible.
