Siccature "Jah Cure" Alcock, was arrested and charged Thursday April 22, 2010 for illegal possession of Marijuana. Jah Cure was travelling along Dunrobin Avenue when he was stopped and searched during a spot check. Two ganja spliffs were reportedly found in the ash tray of the car, along with a small amount of marijuana in a bag. The police say the drug weighs about an ounce in total. Jah Cure was released from police custody yesterday and granted bail of $10,000. He is set to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday April 26, 2010.
David "Mavado" Brooks was freed on Thursday June 09, 2011 when he appeared in the St Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate court in Jamaica. Mavado was charged with malicious destruction of property by the St Ann Police last month. The charge stemmed from a fight outside a night club in Runaway Bay on May 22, where he was arrested, charged and subsequently offered $50,000 station bail. Mavado was freed along with his manager Julian Jones-Griffith on Thursday, after the complainant in the case told the court that she no longer had an interest in the matter.
Former Prime Minister Edward Seaga has made public his distaste for modern dance hall music, which he describes as lacking in substance. Seaga stated "I am a man that when I think music, I think melody. I think lyrics. Luciano has denied knowing that his house guest, who engaged police in a shoot-out and was killed on his property, was a wanted man. "He denies knowing that aspect of the man of which the police speak," Delano Franklyn, Luciano's attorney said yesterday. Andrew Senior, who the police said was a notorious criminal wanted in connection with several crimes including murder, was shot dead Luciano's Westminster Crescent, St Andrew, house Wednesday. Buju Banton was sentenced on today Thursday June 23, 2011 to 10 years in a U.S. federal prison for his conviction on cocaine conspiracy charge. Mark "Buju Banton" Myrie, was convicted in February by a jury in Tampa, Florida, on charges of conspiring with two other men to possess at least 11 pounds (5 kg) of cocaine. At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge James Moody said the 10-year sentence was the minimum he could give under federal guidelines. He said the maximum was 151 months.
Debuting its latest modern marvel, China has opened the world's longest sea bridge, a 26.4 mile-long structure. Expanding across the wide blue waters of Jiaozhou bay, the vast Y-shaped bridge connects the Northern port city of Qingdao with an airport built on a nearby island and the industrial suburb of Huangdao. The bridge halves the journey time to the other side of the bay, making it just 30 minutes. The first motorists to drive onto the six-lane bridge will have a free journey. One of the main suspect in the shooting of Voicemail artist O’Neil Edwards, was found dead in the Chancery Hall community this afternoon, Police said the unidentified man managed to escape checkpoints set up to nab him several hours earlier. Edwards’ cellular phone was found in the dead man’s possession. Meanwhile a second suspect was picked up by the Manchester Police in that parish last night and is being transported to Kingston where he will be questioned. Author Ian Fleming will be honored with his very own airport. Jamaica is set to name its third international airport after the novelist who created James Bond. Previously known as the Boscobel Airstrip, the upgraded and expanded Ian Fleming airport will mainly be used by travellers flying in on private jets.
