The celebrity Web site TMZ, which posted the photo Thursday night, did not explain its origin. The site wrote only that it was taken after an altercation between platinum-selling singer and her boyfriend, fellow pop star Chris Brown. Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton acknowledged Friday afternoon that the photo could prove embarrassing to the woman pictured, a view shared by some advocates for abused women. But in the welts and marks on the face of the woman in the photo, some also saw a teaching moment. Brown, 19, was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of making felony criminal threats, but police have not publicly identified his alleged victim. NEW YORK (AP): The MTV Video Music Awards kicked off yesterday with a poignant, tender tribute to fallen icon Michael Jackson, but soon got back into raucous character thanks to Kanye West, who delivered yet another awards show outburst at the expense of country and pop sweetheart Taylor Swift. West - who has flipped out after losing at the VMAs, the Grammys, the American Music Awards and others - complained once again that the wrong person had been awarded a trophy, but this time, it was on behalf of Beyonce. Beyonce, nominated for best female video for Single Ladies, was bested by Swift, the best-selling artiste of the year outside of Jackson. The 19-year-old was giddy when she won for her clip You Belong to Me, saying: "I...

He attacked Merciless with "Yuh talk bout Cobra a bowers, Bounty a coward, yuh nah tel dem di amount a man whe ...... u down a Riker's". Merciless appeared to have been speechless as the crowd went into a frenzy. Ninja Man thought that was the defining moment and declared himself winner by walking off the stage.
