Dancehall artiste Squash, born Andrae Maurice Whittaker and known as one of the leading voices from Salt Spring, Montego Bay, is back in the headlines this time for a serious legal setback in the United States. The 6ix Boss has officially been sentenced to two years and three months (27 months) in a U.S. federal prison after entering a guilty plea in a firearm case that dates back to earlier this year.
The case began in February 2025, when Squash was stopped by police in Miami, Florida. During the routine traffic stop, officers reportedly recovered a firearm inside the vehicle. According to U.S. authorities, the weapon had been modified with a “chip,” allowing rapid automatic-style fire an alteration that carries severe penalties under federal law. To make matters worse, reports indicate that Squash was living in the United States without legal immigration status at the time. This instantly elevated the charges and potential penalties he faced.
On November 24, 2025, the artist appeared in a Miami federal courtroom where the judge officially handed down a 27-month prison sentence. Under federal guidelines, prisoners typically serve the majority of their sentence, with only limited reductions for good behavior.
Once his prison time is completed, Squash is expected to face U.S. immigration proceedings, which could lead to deportation back to Jamaica.
