Teena Marie was one of the first white women to score hits consistently on the R&B charts. The singer, composer and producer died Sunday at age 54 at her home of natural causes.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in Santa Monica, Calif., on March 5, 1956, she grew up in a predominantly black area of nearby Venice, Calif., and began singing and acting while still a child.

New Orleans rapper, Magnolia Shorty, was shot and killed last Monday. Rumors and speculations swarmed the internet and various social media until coroners confirmed her death on Wednesday. The rapper was a victim of a double homicide, as her body was found with another gunshot victim, identified as Jerome “Man Man” Hampton.

Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding has suggested the possibility of Jamaica establishing its own final Court of Appeal as an option to the United Kingdom based Privy Council or the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

The Government of Jamaica has put into effect amendments to the island’s duty-free law allowing the sale of arrivals duty-free products. The cabinet approved an amendment to the Jamaican Duty Free Shopping Act in April 2010.

Jamaican tourism minister Edmund Bartlett said:

Jamaicans travelling to the Cayman Islands who have validated US, UK or Canadian visas will no longer require a separate visa to enter the country. The changes would be implemented in January 2011.
