Classrooms emptied and business owners pulled down their shutters this week as the word spread that the Jamaican government had finally signed an extradition request from the United States for alleged gang leader Christopher "Dudus" Coke.

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has called out the National Reserve after thugs in west Kingston yesterday stated their intention to defend the 'President' when they opened fire on a team of soldiers attempting to enter Denham Town.

The members of the National Reserve have been asked to report for duty at 6 p.m. today and be prepared to go into action as tension rises in sections of the Corporate Area.

The government is trying to secure areas for West Kingston students who have to sit the CAPE and CSEC examinations today are given safe passage to and from the examination centres.

The education ministry said yesterday that students from schools in West Kingston would sit their exams at other centres, but it was unclear what measures were being put in place to transport these students from the troubled Tivoli Gardens community.
