The Guinness Sounds of Greatness sound system competition is back this year, and is set to kick off this Saturday, October 17, at venuesto be announced. Last year, it was Rebel-T that won the title over Bodyguard in the finals,

and this year there will be sixteen of Jamaica’s top sound systems going up against each other overseveral rounds of competition. The winning sound system will walk away with just over J$1 million in prize money.




Here’s the first round line-up schedule (venues to be announced):

October 17




- King Mello vs. Black Widdo

- Bredda Hype vs. Black Scorpio

- Flava Unit vs. Danger Zone

- Rock-A-Way vs. Black Kat

October 31

- Xclusive vs. Black Blunt

- City Rock vs. Sound Trooper

November 7

- Bass Odyssey vs. Coppershot

- Swatch International vs. Jam Rock




The winners of the clashes above, will move on to second round clashes that are set to happen on November 14, 21, 28 and December 5.The second round winners will progress to the semi-finals, scheduledfor December 11 and 12, with the grand finals set to happen on Saturday, December 19.




Some of the clash rules - all songs played must befit for airplay; language that incites violence or discriminates against any particular group of persons is prohibited; each clash will have three segments - (1) 30-minute juggling (2) Tune for tune (3) Dubfor dub; each segment will be judged separately, and if there is noclear winner after the three segments, the sounds will go at it in abest of three dubs segment; crowd response will determine the winner ofeach segment; three judges will ensure that the contestants stay with in the guidelines, offer commentary on the performances and announce thewinners.
