When the Soul Train Awards show is taped on November 3, for the first time ever in the history of the 21-year-old event, a reggae artiste will take home a trophy. This, as the Best Reggae Artiste category will see the likes of Tarrus Riley, Mavado, Serani, Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley competing for the coveted trophy.
The Soul Train Music Awards is an annual award show which previously aired in US national television syndication. It honours the best in Black music and entertainment.
The 2008 ceremonies were not held due to several factors, including the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike, the ill health of founder Don Cornelius , and Soul Train distributor Tribune Entertainment terminating operations in the wake of the sale of Tribune Company to Sam Zell.
With the rights to Soul Train acquired by MadVision Entertainment, the awards will be presented on November 24, 2009 on the former BET J, which has been rebranded as Centric and now holds the rights to air Soul Train.
