It appears that the Internal Revenue Service is after Rapper Doug E. Fresh for unpaid taxes. According to a lien filed by the IRS in New York City, Doug E. Fresh failed to pay $2,276,848 dollars in federal taxes.
However, this is not the first time Fresh has had to deal with delinquent taxes owed to the IRS. Back in 2008, he owed $367,000 dollars in unpaid federal and state taxes.
Despite his problem with the IRS, Fresh seems to be doing okay financially business-wise. He has opened a new restaurant named Doug E’s Chicken and Waffles in Harlem, New York and has a club called Fresh. Fresh stated that he opened his restaurant as a way to give back and create an opportunity for teenagers in the Harlem neighborhood to earn money by working an after-school job.
Fresh, who real name is Douglas E. Davis, started his hip hop career back in the 1980s as a solo artist and as part of a group of talented DJs called the Get Fresh Crew. His great beat-boxing skills paved the way for him to become known as one of the world’s greatest beatboxers. As part of the Get Fresh Crew, he created two songs called “The Show” and “La-Di-Da-Di”, which are considered to be classic in the hip hop industry. The beats of these two songs are still sampled in songs created by new and old hip hop artists in the industry today. After a brief break from the industry, he returned under Def Jam Records in 1988.
Recently, rap group Cali Swag District released a song called “Teach Me How to Dougie.” The Dougie is a popular dance created from Fresh’s old school dance moves from back in the day.
