Jamaica PM Seeks To Cut Ties With Queen

Jamaica's prime minister Portia Simpson Miller said that she wants Jamaica to sever its ties with the British monarchy so that Jamaica can turn the page on its colonial past and focus on development.

She first announced her desire to replace Queen Elizabeth II as Jamaica's head of state with a Jamaican president during her swearing-in ceremony Jan. 6, 2012.
