Police recovered over T&T$18 million (J$240 million) worth of compressed marijuana concealed in a 40-foot shipping container at the port of Point Lisas, Trinidad on Wednesday. A bout 12 suitcases was found stored among boxes of pressure washers inside a 40-foot container at an industrial property at Point Lisas Industrial Estate Property Development Company between 4.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Wednesday.

The container left Jamaica on February 25, arrived at the port of Port-of-Spain on March 1 and was transferred to the Point Lisas port last Friday. It was kept under surveillance by police before they decided to search the container on Wednesday.

Officers discovered that the original seal on the container, affixed in Jamaica prior to its departure from the port in Kingston, had been removed and replaced with a TT Customs and Excise Seal. An investigation has been launched to ascertain how the original seal on the container was broken, and how a TT Customs and Excise seal came to be affixed to the container.
