International Dancehall Queen title returns to Jamaica.

After a two-year hiatus, the coveted Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen title returned to Jamaica when Montegonian Tavia Morris, a 25-year-old nail technician, was crowned champion at the Pier One Complex on the Waterfront last Saturday, It was the 14th staging of the world's largest dancehall dancing competition.

Last year, American Michelle Young upstaged the contestants who came from all over the world to secure the title and took the crown up North. The year before that Canadian Maude Francato won the contest.

It was a great comeback for the nimble-footed Morris who last year made it to the top 10 after holding the patrons' attention with her tantalising moves. At the time, she seemed destined for the crown but fell out of grace with the judges after she climbed a metal lighting rig where she spent too much time and lost valuable points.

The energetic Morris, who left the venue with the Red Label Wine International Dancehall Queen title and $350,000 richer, had the crowd going wild with provocative gyrating, balancing on her feet as well as her head. She also took home the trophy for the Best Costume.

Meanwhile, the enigmatic Polish dancer, Ursula Fyce captivated the fans with her passionate moves copped the first runner-up slot, winning $200,000 in the process. She also took the trophy for the Best Dance Routine.

In the meantime, another Jamaican, Kingstonian Tiffany Hewitt was placed second runner-up, collecting $100,000 for her efforts.
