The playing of reggae and dancehall music was suspended in Barbados. The suspension began on June 1 and ended today August 05, 2013 to facilitate Crop Over. Those that control the policies of the Barbados music industry are hoping that Bajans will be consuming more of their culture from the media during that period.

Crop Over is a traditional festival which began in Barbados, having had its early beginnings on the sugar cane plantations during the colonial period. The festival was originally a celebration signalling the end of the yearly sugar cane harvest. However, it has since evolved into Barbados' biggest national festival, similar to carnivals in Trinidad and Brazil.

How do you feel about this?

They would have more street festivals which would invite more tourist to visit the island certain times of the year.

i think it is a good idea. i think Jamaica should do the same for American hip hop/pop. lets make it the month of august with just plain reggae/dancehall. this will definitely promote the local artist.

You have issues boss, You jamaicans need to be more aware of the other islands before you chat rubbish. There was no Ban on reggae just more airplay for our local artist during the festival. If you listen alot of the music has a reggae influence . Reggae is jamiacan as mucha s we love the music here, but we as barbadians are celebrating our national festival no diss to jamaicans. Even RDX perfromed at a show during the Festival. Stop fighting the rest of the Caribbean for no reason, we all one people. Barbados to the World!
