Kartel appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court on Friday October 14. 2011 to answer charges of murder, conspiracy to murder & illegal possession of a firearm in relation to the shooting death of a St. Catherine businessman/promoter. It was the second hearing in three days for Kartel and his legal team after he was remanded at his initial hearing regarding the matter on Wednesday October 12, 2011. (AP) Health officials in Jamaica say a dead baby found just outside the island's largest maternity hospital was not a patient there. The chairman for the South East Regional Health Authority is disputing a police account that a woman threw the newborn girl out the hospital's second-story window early Thursday. Lyttleton Shirley said Friday that no babies are missing from the maternity ward or the morgue at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston. He said the hospital is auditing a list of all mothers discharged in recent days to help police with the investigation.

Jamaica has again been ranked as a tier two country for human trafficking by the US State Department which has cited inadequate efforts to prosecute trafficking offenses and protect victims. In its ninth annual Trafficking in Persons Report released Wednesday, the US described the island as a source, transit, and destination for women and children trafficked for the purposes of sexual exploitation. The report says the majority of victims are poor Jamaican women and girls, and increasingly boys, who are trafficked from rural to urban and tourist areas for commercial sexual exploitation. New York police have confirmed that a dancehall Promoter Bobby Genius who tried to break up a fight outside a Queens banquet hall is the city's first 2011 murder victim. Bobby tried to stop a fight between a guy and girl after the guy punch the female to the ground. The unidentified gunman shot and killed Dwayne "Bobby Genius" Haughton, 29, during the early hours of Saturday morning in the Richmond Hill section of Queens.
Hip hop artist Heavy D died yesterday November 8th 2011 at the young age of 44. Dwight "Heavy D" Arrington Meyers collapsed outside his Beverly Hills condo after he suffered difficulty breathing while returning from a morning shopping trip, according to police. When paramedics arrived, Meyers regained consciousness and was transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he later died. The case was referred to the Coroner's Office to determine an exact cause of death. Heavy D was born in Jamaica.

Jamaican investigators looking into a murder allegedly committed by Vybz Kartel and members of his crew say they have video evidence of the crime. Vybz Kartel, Shawn Storm, fashion designer Moonie and Kiera Jones are all being accused of murdering Clive Williams on August 16th. Prosecutors are alleging that the Clive Williams was taken to a house in Havendale, stabbed and beaten to death over a missing gun. They also say they have witness statements to back up their claims
