VP Records founders Pat and Vincent Chin is in mourning, following the murder of their grandson Joel Chin. The 35-year-old producer, who also headed up VP’s A&R department, was reportedly shot and killed as he drove up into his apartment in Stony Hill, St Andrew, Jamaica Tuesday August 16. According to reports, Chin died instantly in his driveway. VP Records released a statement, saying:
Jay-Z will be battling clothing giant Volcom, as Volcom has filed a lawsuit against Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label due to infringement based upon usage of their logo. The diamond stone used in Roc Nation ads looks very much alike to Volcom’s logo, which has been trademarked since 1991. We don't have a figure on the amount of money Volcom is suing for, but they feel their logo has been compromised. Do you think Volcom has a case?
BARRING a last-minute reprieve, Jamaican-born Edward Bell will be executed in Virginia, USA at 9:00 tonight for the 1999 gun murder of a police officer. Bell, 42, has been on death row for seven years after exhausting all avenues of appeal in the United States justice system. Bell, a native of Portland in eastern Jamaica, was found guilty of murder of police sergeant Ricky Timbrook, who was chasing him in a dark alley on the night of October 29, 1999 in the city of Winchester. John Holt died in a London hospital on Sunday. He was 69. The cause of death is yet to be announced. John Holt still stands head and shoulders above the rest as one of Jamaica's sweetest singers and enduring songwriters. He has voiced and penned so many of the country's classics that in a way, Holt has defined the island's sound. Born in the Greenwich Farm area of Kingston, Jamaica, on July 11, 1947, the young Holt took his first steps into the music business via the talent show circuit. Talent shows have always had a massive popularity in Jamaica and the top ones were initially broadcast live on radio and later on television.
Dancehall artiste Michael "Risto Benji" Benjamin was shot and killed in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, Monday night. The 36 year old veteran deejay was shot several times by a gunman in an area known as Vietnam. Risto Benji was taken to the Spanish Town hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Dancehall artiste Mr Vegas has parted ways with his management Irish and Chin. Garfield 'Chin' Bourne of Irish and Chin said the parting of ways was a mutual one and he harbours no hard feelings for Vegas' decision. "The artiste said he wanted more control of his career. I still hold Vegas in high regard as an artiste and I wish him all the best," said Bourne. Irish and Chin began working with Vegas in 2007. Their association yielded many accomplishments for Vegas, according to Bourne. The United Soccer League has suspended Jamaican forward Romeo Parkes for the remainder of the 2016 season and fined him an undisclosed amount for attacking Canadian international defender Karl Ouimette in a game Saturday. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds had already terminated Parkes’ contract. Parkes and Ouimette, a former Impact player, were both red-carded for their part in a melee late in the game between Pittsburgh and the New York Red Bulls II. As they began to walk off the field, Parkes kicked Ouimette from behind, knocking him to the ground. The 23-year-old from Repentigny was stretchered off, but was not seriously injured.

Sources in Jamaica have named the banned substance that five Jamaican athletes tested positive for at the national trials last month as methylxanthine, a decongestant. If taken as a performance-enhancing drug it could assist in getting oxygen into the lungs. Methylxanthine is often found in cough medicine and can be bought without a prescription over the pharmacy counter, adding to the potential confusion for athletes. A type of bronchodilator, it is commonly used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Usain Bolt outran serious injury and possibly death yesterday but wrote off his $15.3-million 2009 BMW M3 Coupe on the Vineyard Toll section of Highway 2000 in St Catherine. Usain Bolt sustained only minor injuries to the ball of his feet, caused by thorns when leaving the ill-fated car, was released from the Spanish Town Hospital after some three hours of examination by doctors.
