The wife of reggae singer Tinga Stewart died Thursday morning at the University Hospital of the West Indies from complications stemming from a clot in her lungs. Andrea Stewart, who is asthmatic, began to experience breathing problems last week and was hospitalised. Tinga Stewart, a two-time Festival Song Contest winner, turned 71 last year on July 3. The veteran singer has battled depression in the past three years and shown little interest in music. He is not taking the death of his wife of 10 years well.
GAYS and lesbians in the US have targeted Jamaican products Red Stripe beer and Myers Rum in a boycott of the Caribbean island to support local homosexuals who they said were being oppressed. Last Tuesday, gay advocates at a New York City inn - the self-styled birthplace of the gay rights movement - dumped the Jamaican liquor products in the sewer and called for continued support to send "a clear message to Jamaican people and their government". Isaiah Laing, head of Supreme Promotions, which stages the huge Sting concert on Boxing Day annually has a J$10 million budget problem and rising. Jamaica's government declared a state of emergency in parts of Kingston sunday night after the shooting and firebomb attacks on police stations by suspected supporters Christopher "Dudus" Coke . The emergency covered the West Kingston and St Andrews districts of the capital, where gunmen had fired on two police stations and set fire to a third; at least one policeman was injured. The attackers were thought to be supporters of Christopher "Dudus" Coke whom the government is seeking under a US extradition request; it has called on him to surrender to the authorities.

The romantic ballad Missing You Right Now has become the eighth number one single for singer Da'Ville. The track has taken over pole position on several reggae charts in Jamaica and overseas. Missing You Right Now is number one on the Shanty Vibes Reggae Chart in St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Richie B Hit List Countdown; and RETV Reggae Chart. The song is number 23 on the Digicel Caribbean Hot 30 Countdown; and number two on the New York Reggae chart. Dancehall Artiste Capleton was involved in a serious car accident in the community of Llandewey in St Thomas on Tuesday, August 09, 2022. The deejay crashed and overturned his black Benz while driving home from a charity show in the parish. Capleton was returning home early Tuesday morning after performing at a charity show, alongside Sizzla, which was geared towards community building in St. Thomas. A group of joggers reportedly found a man naked, with his hands and feet bound, sitting on the sidewalk at the foot of the hill close to Perkins Boulevard at Queen Hill in St Andrew, Jamaica. The man reportedly parked his car at a nearby apartment complex and was about to jog when a white car drove up with two armed men who held him at gunpoint. The attackers proceeded to tear off the jogger's clothes and took turns at raping him. St Andrew South Division Police department said they received no report of the incident. However, it was confirmed by a member of the Queen Hill community, who said the men drove a white car and were armed with a gun and a knife.
Shaggy has recorded a new song with a diverse group of Caribbean artiste to raise money for earthquake survivors in Haiti. The 7.0-magnitude quake on Jan. 12 killed an estimated 200,000 or more people in Haiti. It features Shaggy, fellow Jamaican Sean Paul, Haitian musician Belo and soca singers Alison Hinds of Barbados and Destra Garcia from Trinidad and Tobago. The Barbados Youth Action Program, a Government affiliate under the chairmanship of member of parliament Hamilton Lashley, has scheduled performances of the two Jamaican artistes for a reggae show on March 27, 2010 at the Midway House carpark, Bay Street, The City. Barbados' commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin is objecting to their joint performance in that country on March 27. The commissioner, said the force was concerned about the negativity associated with both entertainers. In a court order released Thursday April 08 2010, the U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division decided that the trial will now get underway on Monday, June 21. Buju's lawyers immediately demanded a status conference to discuss the trial date, as they believe that any further delay of the trial date would only put their client at a disadvantage. Attorney David Markus, who is representing Buju Banton, said that the defense team had already laid the legal groundwork and preparation in anticipation of an earlier trial date. Now, Banton's legal claims says they'll go so far as to appeal for the transfer of the case to an entirely different judge, in the hopes of moving the trial date up.
