(Reuters) - Nearly one in five gay and bisexual men in 21 major U.S. cities are infected with HIV, and nearly half of them do not know it, U.S. health officials said on Thursday. Young men, and especially young black men, are least likely to know if they are infected with HIV, according to a study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Researchers at the CDC studied 8,153 men who have sex with men in 21 U.S. cities. The men were taking part in the 2008 National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System, which looked at prevalence and awareness of the human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. The study found that 28 percent of gay black men infected with HIV, compared with 18 percent of Hispanic...
ReggaeMe (AP) - A record number of people were killed in Jamaica last year, solidifying the island's reputation as having one of the world's highest murder rates. Police said the majority of the 1,680 killings - six more than the previous record set in 2005 - involved victims of drug and extortion gangs and occurred far from the island's trendy tourist spots, and most were shootings. The announcement comes as Jamaica prepares for the arrival of a radical Muslim cleric who served time in a British prison for urging the killing of Americans, Hindus, Jews and Christians. Hinds said police will set up surveillance on Sheik Abdullah el-Faisal, although it is unclear when he will arrive. Hinds said police also are still...

Jordan Anthony Brown doesn’t mesh with his new surroundings. He’s swimming in his jail-issued shirt, and his pant legs are cuffed six times to keep them off the floor. He cries and is scared. He misses his dad. He wants to go back to school. He wants to go home. Jail isn’t a place for an 11-year-old, his attorney said. “It’s surreal, just surreal,” said New Castle attorney Dennis Elisco, who is representing the boy. “Bizarre, really.” Jordan Brown is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn son Friday morning. He was charged as an adult Saturday morning with criminal homicide and criminal homicide of an unborn child and is being held in isolation at the Lawrence County Jail. Jordan Brown...

The boy is overweight and uses a toy truck to get around because he can’t keep up with other kids, but the dad of a chain-smoking Indonesian toddler doesn’t see what the big deal is. And, mom adds, don’t even think about taking the coffin nails away from their little stovepipe terror of a tyke. “He’s totally addicted,” mother Diana Rizal, 26, said of Ardi, the 2-year-old ashtray of her eye. “If he doesn’t get cigarettes, he gets angry and screams and batters his head against the wall. He tells me he feels dizzy and sick.” Ardi had his first smoke at 18 months under Dad’s unconcerned eye, British papers reported. Mohammed Rizal, 30, opined, “He looks pretty healthy to me. I don’t see the problem.”
